Quiet luxury: dressing in a manner that doesn’t give off how much money your clothes and accessories cost, but appearing wealthy nevertheless. The style is not flashy; no sequins or rhinestones. The silhouettes are clean, and the color palette is muted. People are not trying to layer loads of clothes and accessories; the aesthetic is very minimalistic and timeless with classic pieces. The clothing doesn’t have logos or loud designs covering it. Everything is made to last with high quality fabrics and metals.
I believe there is a trend and lifestyle version of ‘quiet luxury’, the trend may not last very long and typically only goes as far as your closet. While the lifestyle can cover furniture, linens, and beyond. The trend will be gone eventually with something else coming in, but the lifestyle started with the “old-money generations.” These are people or families that have had wealth for decades and feel no need to show it off with brand names. Their clothes will be passed down since they are made to last and will never go out of style.
The trend has come and gone but the minimalist style has recently returned with the most recent runways having shown just how much. The Row and Loro Piana have recently showcased their fall 2025 lines which feature elegant and simple outfits while still appearing chic and sophisticated. Many brands tend to have a ‘quiet luxury’ feel and background, but their runways tend to lean more chaotic with pops of color and fun shapes. For example; Rick Owens’ 2025 runways have shown extravagant shapes while some of their biggest selling items are simple tops and dresses.
You need to look more into your lifestyle when curating a wardrobe. ‘Quiet luxury’ has been a lifestyle longer than a trend which means finding lifelong pieces and making your wardrobe last; you are not picking out pieces for just a vacation, you are picking out clothes for your life. Vogue Arabia writer Teresa Karpinska has made this clear with this statement: “As exclusive as it gets at its core, quiet luxury is that worn-out Barbour jacket you’ve had for generations because your lifestyle requires you to have one, and not the panic buy of three brand new high street dupes you have no desire to keep past snapping a few holiday snaps on your trip to Europe.” You want your wardrobe to emphasize high quality products that are specific for your life.
The ‘quiet luxury’ style still tends to get hate with critics saying there is no individualism involved and everyone in this “aesthetic” dresses the same. So how can you style an outfit and make it individual to you? Looking into smaller brands and designers for pieces is an amazing way to make something more individual but really since ‘quiet luxury’ has been around for so long sometimes It can be hard to break out. Really though, as long as it is your style, it is individual to you. The trend will have its downfall eventually, but the lifestyle will remain for a long time to come.
